Subsequent expansions made easy

A customised Weidmüller solution package comprising signal splitters, power-feed modules and rail bus is scoring points in the optimisation measures currently undertaken at a coal-fired power plant in southern Turkey. The main benefits include the impressively low installation costs and savings on materials.

 
The retrofitting of existing plants often involves renovating or upgrading the control rooms, providing a good opportunity for using the signals of existing sensors not only for controlling the plant itself, but also for the purpose of process optimisation. This was also the requirement at an existing coal-fired power plant in southern Turkey, which is going to be converted as part of a pilot project.

“The coal-fired power plant is currently being optimised to enhance its performance. A new monitoring system has been developed for the control centre to provide better monitoring of the individual processes,” explains local Weidmüller electronics expert Alp Akpulat. “We were able to offer the project engineers in charge our ACT20M-CI-2CO modules as an optimum solution for signal splitting.

These compact signal splitters allow signals to be converted and duplicated simultaneously, and are just 6 mm wide. Additional functions can therefore be easily accommodated in the existing space without further ado.”

Power supply via the rail bus
Another impressive advantage of the solution is the significant savings potential achieved thanks to the reduced material requirements. Like all the other modules in the Weidmüller ACT20M product family, power is also easily and conveniently supplied via the CH20M rail bus – simultaneously to 61 modules in the case of the Turkish coal-fired power plant. This allowed the power supply cabling to be reduced from 244 to just four clamping points.
